Proposed
On October 19, 1903, the North Branch Terminal Railroad was incorporated.
The officers of the company were Bernard F. Weber, George Goldman, Paul O. Stensland, William Schlake and John W. Turner. The railroad is capitalize at $10,000.
On February 17, 1904, the city council of the City of Chicago granted a franchise to the company. Here is the ordinance:
Section 1. That permission and authority are hereby granted to the North Branch Terminal Railroad Company,
its lessees, successors and assigns, to erect a telegraph line to be used only for the business of the railroad herein after authorized, and to construct,
maintain and forever operate one or more tracks (not exceeding four at any street crossing), with the necessary and convenient side-tracks,
turnouts, switches, cross-overs and other appurtenances on and along the. route hereinafter described, and on any adjoining land and track connections
with any steam rail road now or hereafter constructed in Cook County, Illinois, and with any manufacturing or other establishment, including lumber, stone, coal
and brick yards on or near said route hereinafter described. Commencing at a point where Lincoln Avenue intersects with the line between
Sections one (1) and two (2) Town ship forty (40) North, Range thirteen (13) East of the Third Principal Meridian,
and running thence in a southerly and southeasterly direction to a point at or near Oakley Avenue, between Clybourne Avenue
and the North Branch of the Chicago River,
and for said purposes cross all intervening streets and alleys in and along said route and adjoining lands,
it being understood that the permission and authority hereby granted shall he used exclusively for the operation of freight cars,
the necessary locomotives and appliances for the handling of freight.
If built, the railroad would connect with the Chicago & West Ridge RR at Lincoln Ave.
